The primary guide for all the day trips, Andi approaches kayaking and being on the water with an easygoing manner and high emphasis on safety. If you are a newcomer, she will work with you to ensure you feel comfortable, and if you are a more experienced paddler, she can work on stroke technique, edging, and rolls as well. Andi also truly enjoys sharing her knowledge of coral reefs and mangrove ecosystems with others, as well as reminding folks the importance of getting out and playing a bit more on the water and truly appreciating this awesome landscape around us.
During the winter season, Andi also has the opportunity to work a kayak guide and marine naturalist one week long extended trips with 2 companies in Belize and Roatan.
With a Zoology major and focus in marine ecology, Andi comes to Utila from 7 years in Hawai’i where she worked as a kayak guide, and also with The University of Hawai’i, The Nature Conservancy, as well as the US Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Services in a variety of seasonal positions from seabird field biology to coral reef monitoring. Andi has been on Utila for 6+ years and thinks its one of the most fantastic places to kayak and snorkel. For reviews of Andi’s trip, click on this TRIP ADVISOR LINK

Carrell and Marty
Carrell and Marty are some of the true “pioneers” of bringing kayaking to Utila. They also are the main source of our rental boats (sit in / rec. style) that we use on our trips.
The were some of the first folks to bring kayaks to Utila when they opened the Utila Sailling School, because theynoted that the mangroves were perfect for exploring by kayak. The sailing school is long closed but they continue to enjoy kayaking in the harbor, to dive sites, and to the north shore via the mangrove channel. They’ve also started working with their caretakers Javiar and Angel to start renting their kayaks nd to give him a portion of the income.
They love sharing their love of kayaking and all the birdlife (Marty is an avid birdwatcher and likely the most knowledgeable on all of Utila) and quiet beauty they find kayaking and snorkeling among the reefs. As Carrell says, “It adds a whole new dimension to Utila! I’m happy to share the love of kayaking on Utila with others- t makes my day when a couple returns a second or third or fourth time to go kayaking here!”

Utila Iguana Station

We are considering a trip to Roatan in about February. We use seakayaks on our lake at home in Minnesota. What can you tell us about prices and options for kayaking in Roatan? Thank you,
Hi- sorry for the delay in response- I was up doing some kayak training in the USA. I don’t actually have too much information on kayaking in Roatan for day trips- all my trips are based in Utila- the next island over. However, if you are looking at a weeklong all inclusive trip in Roatan, I work with Uncommon Adventures there. They offer kayak trips and also multisport trips- with stand up paddleboard too. Check them out at http://www.uncommonadv.com and let them know Andi from Utila sent you. You can write me at paddleutila@gmail.com if you have more questions. Best, Andi
